Microsoft to push harder for cloud

Microsoft is shifting its strategy away from pitching itself as a company that can offer companies a choice of software or hosted services, toward pushing the cloud, an executive said on Thursday at the software giant’s annual financial analyst meeting.

A year ago, Microsoft was telling customers that the company is uniquely positioned because it offers a choice of on-premise or cloud-based service, said Kevin Turner, chief operating officer for Microsoft.

Convirture manages open source Xen, KVM virtualization and the private cloud

In February Convirture unveiled the 2.0 version of its open source virtualization management tool designed specifically for the open source Xen and KVM virtualization platforms. The company also said at that time it had plans to deliver an Enterprise version of the management software.

ACS and TekMate Partner to Expand Managed IT Solutions and Services

Alaska Communications Systems Group, Inc. (“ACS”) (NASDAQ: ALSK), today
announced that it will acquire 49 percent of TekMate Alaska’s largest
privately owned information technology services company, for $2 million
in cash; the deal is expected to close in August and be accretive to
cash flow in year one. With this investment and a related operating
agreement, TekMate will bring broader managed IT solutions and
professional services to the market, leveraging ACS assets and
capabilities.
